It could be coincidence but the cybersecurity arm of the Department of Homeland Security, US-CERT, is pushing a number of critical security updates. These alerts come days ahead of the news that data linked to thousands of FBI agents and law enforcement was breached. Microsoft has admitted that two of its email platforms suffered security flaws contributing to the recent hack.
The following security updates need to be installed now as appropriate:
- Microsoft April 2019 Security Updates
- Adobe Security Updates (Eight rolled out on April 9)
- Intel Security Updates (Four released)
- Samba Security Updates (Two released)
- Apache Server 2.4 Security Update
In addition, if you are one of the many, many who use McAfee bundled with your AT&T service, take note: the Quick Scan is self cancelling when it reaches 99 per cent completion. You may not have noticed. You might be under the impression that your machine is safe from viruses after a Quick Scan. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. The Quick Scan is non-functional. McAfee is aware of the problem but has yet to download a fix. (You get what you pay for.) It’s never a good idea to rely on a single application for malware protection. So hopefully you have another application that does work.
As an A+ certified tech, whenever I got a new machine with McAfee pre-installed, I removed it.
